DeutschTravelinformation/Route for walking by Rosa Maria Lamberti

Chiesa San Martino on Lake Como

Rosa Maria Lamberti am Comer SeeCiao amici, each visitor of Lake Como knows the small church of San Martino above the village of Griante, because it can’t be overlooked. The pilgrimage church is situated on an unreachable looking rock, about 475 feet above Lake Como.
But as so often, appearances can be deceiving. Even the former German Chancellor Adenauer in his old age visited this church on every Sunday, when he spent his holidays in the Villa Colina, in Cadenabbia.

From the car park on the lakeside you need about an hour to walk. Chiesa-San-Martino2_Comer-SeeThe well-marked and relatively comfortable path leads you through the natural park “Parco Naturale Oasi di San Martino”. At first it goes uphill through the forest over numerous broad steps. Then the route leads you through fragrant meadows. Rare birds of prey are nesting in the sheer rock walls. And maybe you can watch the flight of a proud eagle.

At the wayside you find some small chapels. They represent the Mysteries of the Rosary. Halfway you find the “Capella degli Alpini”, dedicated to St. Carlos.
Even if it is not a really difficult way to San Martino, I recommend you to wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. You need also a backpack with drinks and a hearty snack.
Arriving at your destination you can have a picnic and enjoy the dreamlike panorama. The gorgeous lake lies far below. The 2609 meter high Monte Legnone and the over 2400 meter high peaks of the Grigne are greeting you from the east bank. You have a wonderful view on Bellagio and if the weather is nice almost as far as Lecco.

Believe me amici, you’ll never forget this view.

Tanti saluti e a presto
Rosa Maria Lamberti
